Karbala Ka Ishq (The Ultimate Surrender) is an original Sufi Qawwali inspired by the timeless message of Karbala, the unwavering faith of Imam Hussain (RA), and the blessed Ahl-e-Bait.
Rather than presenting Karbala only as a historical event, this composition reflects upon its enduring lessons of Haq (Truth), Sabr (Patience), sacrifice, steadfastness, and complete devotion to Allah. Through a Sufi poetic lens, the Qawwali explores how love for Allah transforms hardship into spiritual victory.
Written by Kaneez Fatma, this cinematic Qawwali takes listeners through the thirst, patience, courage, and ultimate triumph of Imam Hussain (RA) and his noble companions. It reminds us that true victory belongs not to worldly power, but to those who remain steadfast upon truth.
Understanding the Spiritual Symbolism of Karbala
Tishnagi (The Thirst)
During the events of Karbala, access to the Euphrates River was cut off from the camp of Imam Hussain (RA), leaving them without water for several days.
In Sufi poetry, this physical thirst also symbolizes the soul’s eternal longing for closeness to Allah. While the body experiences hardship, the heart remains filled with faith, remembrance, and trust in its Creator.
Sabr-e-Jameel (Beautiful Patience)
The events of Karbala are remembered for extraordinary examples of patience and steadfastness.
According to well-known Islamic narrations, Sayyida Zainab (RA) demonstrated remarkable patience, dignity, and unwavering trust in Allah after witnessing immense hardship. Her steadfastness has inspired generations to remain firm upon truth even in the most difficult circumstances.
Fanaa (Selflessness in Divine Love)
In Sufi literature, Fanaa refers to the annihilation of the ego through complete submission to Allah’s Will.
Many Sufi poets have reflected upon the sacrifice of Imam Hussain (RA) as an inspiring example of complete sincerity, selflessness, and devotion to Allah, where worldly desires are surrendered in pursuit of Divine pleasure.

The land of Karbala… and three days of relentless thirst…

The Hook — The Ultimate Surrender
Lyrics
English Translation
He offered his head in prostration…
This is the Love of Karbala.
He preserved the religion of the Prophet…
This is the Love of Karbala.
He sacrificed everything…
This is the Love of Karbala.
The Light Against the Storm (Haq vs Batil)
Lyrics
English Translation
When darkness spread through the kingdom of falsehood,
A single lamp of Divine Light stood against the storm.
They are the grandsons of the Prophet.
The voice of patience.
The heirs of Ali.
The beloved children of Fatima.
The honour of the Ahl-e-Bait.
The kings of loyalty.
The light of Muhammad ﷺ.
They know no fear.
Their heads may be severed,
Yet they never bow before tyranny.
They sacrificed their lives for truth.
This is the Love of Karbala.
The Thirst of Asghar (RA)
Lyrics
English Translation
Three days of thirst upon the lips,
Yet an ocean within the heart.
A longing to meet the Lord.
Water was guarded.
The armies surrounded them.
Yet the smile of infant Asghar reflected complete trust in Allah.
He received an arrow to the throat.
This is the Love of Karbala.
The Patience of Sayyida Zainab (RA)
Lyrics
English Translation
The patience of Zainab wrote the history of this love.
Hussain was in every tear.
Hussain was in every breath.
She witnessed immense hardship,
Yet remained steadfast with beautiful patience.
She transformed patience into a timeless lesson for humanity.
This is the Love of Karbala.
The Wajd Climax
Lyrics
English Translation
From earth to the heavens,
It is a journey of Divine Light.
Karbala teaches us
That complete devotion to Allah is the highest form of worship.
For the sake of Faith—
Ya Hussain!
For the sake of Truth—
Ya Hussain!
The neck that was severed in prostration
Raised the banner of truth forever.
This is Divine Love.
The Outro — The Eternal Lesson
Lyrics
