The Lore: What Does “Fanaa” Really Mean?
In the path of Sufism (Tasawwuf), the ultimate goal is not just to know the Divine, but to dissolve into the Divine. This state is called Fanaa (Annihilation) — the point where the “I” disappears, and only the Beloved remains.
When I wrote “Tere Dar Pe Fanaa Ho Jaun” (Let Me Be Annihilated at Your Doorstep), I wanted to capture the burning desire of a heart that is tired of the world’s temporary illusions.
This qawwali is a spiritual tapestry, weaving the stories of three luminous icons of Ishq-e-Haqeeqi (True Divine Love):

Hazrat Bilal (RA): The Voice of Endurance
Crushed under stones in the burning desert, he still cried:
“Ahad! Ahad!” — “The One! The One!”
His heart belonged only to the Divine. -
Hazrat Rabia Basri (RA): The Flame of Pure Love
She ran with:
🔥 A torch — to burn Heaven
💧 A bucket — to extinguish Hell
So that people worship Allah for love alone, not fear or reward. -
Hazrat Sarmad (RA): The Ecstasy of Fanaa
He was so lost in Divine presence that he abandoned all worldly norms. His entire being became a witness to La Ilaha Illallah.
This qawwali is my tribute to their journey of surrender.
